Privacy Policy

At Academic Financial Services, maintaining our clients' trust and privacy is very important. This is why we want you to understand how we protect your privacy when collecting and using information about you, and the measures we take to safeguard that information.

Information We Collect: - As a part of providing your consolidation loan or in the origination of your Stafford or Plus loan, we obtain non-public personal information about you, including:
  • Information we receive from you during the course of the application, and loan origination process (such as your name, address, social security number, and income);
  • Information we receive from a consumer credit reporting agency regarding your creditworthiness and credit history;
  • Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, marketing partners, or other nonaffiliated third parties such as your college or university; and
  • Information we receive from your transactions with a financial institution or its affiliates.
Information We Disclose: - In order to originate, process, administer, and manage loans, and to provide customer service to you, it is often necessary for us to disclose your information to other entities. We may disclose the following types of non-public information about you:
  • Information we receive from you on applications or other forms, such as your name, address, telephone number, and social security number;
  • Information from a consumer reporting agency such as your creditworthiness and previous transactions; and
  • Information about your transactions with us or others, such as companies that perform services on our behalf, and your account number, balances, and payment history to the applicable educational institutions.
We may disclose your information, as described above, with nonaffiliated third parties as required or permitted by law. Some examples are:
  • When you specifically request it or give us permission to do so;
  • To protect against fraud or criminal activity;
  • In compliance with the Department of Education;
  • In response to a subpoena; and
  • To financial service providers to service your account.
We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about former customers or consumers to anyone, except as permitted by law.

Information Security - Only those persons who need borrower information to perform their job responsibilities are authorized to have access to it. In addition, we maintain physical, electronic, and procedural security measures that comply with federal regulations to safeguard borrower information.

Internet Privacy - In general, we do not collect information from you unless you provide it. If you do nothing during your visit to our web site but read or download information, we will record your domain name but not your e-mail address. Other information we collect (such as the number of hits, pages visited, type of browser and length of user session) is used for statistical analysis and to help us make our site more useful.

Children - Academic Financial Services does not intentionally collect information about children under 13 years of age. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personally identifiable information from a child under 13, we will take reasonable measures to remove this information from our system.

Consumer Reporting Agencies - Academic Financial Services may have obtained personal information about you from a Consumer Reporting Agency for a “pre-screened” credit offer. The pre-screened offer of credit is based on information in your credit report indicating that you have met certain criteria. The offer is not guaranteed if you do not meet our criteria. You have the right to prohibit your credit file from being used for similar pre-screened offers by requesting in writing or calling any one of the following: Trans Union, Attn: Opt-Out, P.O. Changes to the Policy - Academic Financial Services reserves the right to change its privacy policy, and any of the practices described above, at any time without notice, in accordance with applicable federal and state laws. Please check back periodically for updated information.
